RESEARCH STRATEGY & CONTENTS

Multi-Annual Strategic Plan:

The Research Strategy of the ENIAC Joint Undertaking is defined in the ENIAC Multi-Annual Strategic Plan. It has been elaborated on behalf of the ENIAC Joint Undertaking by AENEAS, with the support and involvement of the research and industrial community represented in it. The current version was adopted by the Governing Board of the ENIAC Joint Undertaking on April 3rd, 2008. A new version is currently being prepared.

The document reflects the research priorities identified in the ENIAC Strategic Research Agenda, taking into account long-term societal needs and lead markets.

Basic principles of the ENIAC JTI:
Strong link to application domains of the ENIAC Strategic Research Agenda

It sets the milestones for the period 2008-2017 and indicates the main streams of research contents, classifying them into 8 sub-programmes:

SP1 - Nanoelectronics for Health & Wellness
SP2 - Nanoelectronics for Transport & Mobility
SP3 - Nanoelectronics for Security & Safety
SP4 - Nanoelectronics for Energy & Environment
SP5 - Nanoelectronics for Communication
SP6 - Nanoelectronics for Infotainment (for 2009, the name of this SP has been changed to E-Society)
SP7 - Design Methods & Tools for Nanoelectronics
SP8 - Equipment & Materials for Nanoelectronics

PLEASE NOTE THAT SIGNIFICANT CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE SUB-PROGRAMMES IN 2010. FOR MORE COMPLETE INFORMATION, PLEASE SEE THE 2010 Annual Work Programme IN THE SECTION BELOW.

Recommendations of possible synergies and guidance on the call process are also indicated in the Multi-Annual Strategic Plan.

Annual Work Programme:

In connection with the Multi-Annual Strategic Plan, an Annual Work Programme will be defined for each call and will represent the main reference, in terms of content, when creating a project proposal.

Prepared by AENEAS, after the consultation of R&D actors, the Annual Work Programme is adopted by the Public Authorities Board of the ENIAC Joint Undertaking.  It defines the specific R&D objectives to be achieved through each call.

The Annual Work Programme focuses on downstream-oriented research and takes into account only part of the sub-programmes defined in the Multi-Annual Strategic Plan.

The 2008 AWP was adopted on April 3rd, 2008 and included the following areas of focus:

SP2 - Nanoelectronics for Transport & Mobility
SP3 - Nanoelectronics for Security & Safety
SP4 - Nanoelectronics for Energy & Environment
SP7 - Design Methods & Tools for Nanoelectronics
SP8 - Equipment & Materials for Nanoelectronics

The 2009 AWP was adopted on January 28, 2009 and includes the following areas of focus:

SP1 - Nanoelectronics for Health & Wellness
SP2 - Nanoelectronics for Transport & Mobility*
SP3 - Nanoelectronics for Security & Safety
SP4 - Nanoelectronics for Energy & Environment*
SP5 - Nanoelectronics for Communication
SP6 - Nanoelectronics for E-Society
SP7 - Design Methods & Tools for Nanoelectronics
SP8 - Equipment & Materials for Nanoelectronics

*Additional small projects for SP2 and SP4 were also accepted. For more complete information, please refer to the 2009 AWP.

The 2010 AWP was adopted February 15, 2010 and includes the following areas of focus:

SP1 - Automotive & Transport
SP2 - Wireless Communication
SP3 - Energy and Efficiency
SP4 - Design Methods & Tools
SP5 - Silicon Process & Integration
SP6 - Equipment, Materials and Manufacturing
SP7 - Healthcare and the Aging Society

Information on requirements, implementation of the call, submission of proposals and eligibility criteria are also provided in the document.

It is recommended that both documents be read in conjunction with the ENIAC Strategic Research Agenda and with the Council Regulation describing the rules and procedures of the ENIAC Joint Undertaking.
