HISTORY

FROM THE ENIAC TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM to AENEAS

The European Technology Platform for Nanoelectronics, ENIAC, was launched at the end of 2004, with the aim to enhance the further development of a truly competitive European Nanoelectronics industry and reinforce the position of Europe as a leading global player in Micro- and Nanoelectronics.

The mission of ENIAC primarily consists in:

  • defining a Strategic Research Agenda
  • bringing together all European key players in Nanoelectronics
  • aligning the fragmented R&D efforts at Community, intergovernmental, national and regional levels in the European Research Area along the common roadmap of this Strategic Research Agenda.

The general objectives of the Strategic Research Agenda are to provide a general framework for the coordination of European research activities at all levels, to achieve European success in Nanoelectronics; to serve the European Nanoelectronics value chain – suppliers, producers and users;  bring together high-quality European competences and share critical knowledge, including that of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs); to identify ‘disruptive’ technologies to overcome road blocks; to ensure timely industrial innovation; and enhance co-operation between industry and academia, and develop strong cross-community R&D collaborations for each area.

ENIAC Stakeholders actively contributed to the achievement of such objectives.
Leading representatives from the semiconductor industry, equipment and materials suppliers, users companies, and research centres participated in the Platform.

Today, most of the activities of the ENIAC Technology Platform are being carried out by AENEAS as it gives the platform a legal body.
