COMMON EUROPEAN APPROACH

Europe is in strong position to make the transition from Microelectronics to Nanoelectronics.

And the existing strengths of European companies, research centres and academic institutions offer the potential for a world-class nanoelectronics industry. But the research challenges and infrastructure investments required are high – and Europe’s global competitors in the USA and Asia Pacific are already establishing dedicated nanoelectronics research networks.

A key purpose of the ENIAC European Technology Platform (ETP) therefore is to draw up and implement the ENIAC Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) to achieve its Vision 2020 of the nanoelectronics sector. This document identifies the key technological, economic and social benefits through achieving global leadership in Nanoelectronics and emphasises the importance of creating effective public-private partnerships to build a sophisticated knowledge base, offer high-skilled employment and boost the global competitive position of this crucial sector through a common European approach.

The ENIAC Vision

For Europe to achieve world leadership in R&D and manufacturing, and maintain high value-added, next-generation production processes in Europe. This requires: a competitive supply chain; a relevant research infrastructure; a favourable legal and financial environment; a suitable education system; and strategic public-private partnerships.
