INDUSTRY-LED INITIATIVES

European Technology Platforms play a key role in aligning EU research priorities to industry’s needs. They cover the whole economic value chain, ensuring that knowledge generated through research is transformed into technologies and processes, and ultimately into globally competitive marketable products and services.

Some 30 European Technology Platforms have been created to cover strategic areas such as nanotechnologies, embedded systems, photonics and robotics.

With the size of the European electronics industry and the key role it will play in the future European economy,  it was one of the first areas to form a Technology Platform.
